A Community Memorial to Honour our Dead

Picnic Among Friends is a day to gather in simple community to pay our respects to loved ones who have died.

For the last ten years, the not-for-profit organisation Living With Our Dead has been holding a memorial picnic in Girraween Park in Sydney’s Inner West. It has provided great comfort, connection and a sense of community for the hundreds of people who have attended.

We have created this website to support and encourage other individuals and communities to host their own Picnic Among Friends. We show you how to get started, tips on how to create a beautiful and safe space for people to come, suggestions on how the event might run, and ways to promote the event.

We hope this is useful and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are a volunteer organisation and will aim to respond as soon as possible.

A Facebook Group has been established for people interested in hosting or attending a Picnic - we’d love you to join. Please share your learnings of hosting a Picnic Among Friends with us in this group or via email, so we can refine and build our resources over time.
